Some new research published in the New England Journal of
Medicine is showing some startling results associated with breast cancer in
women and increased risk for heart disease. We’ve heard stirrings like this
before, but this more recent research is providing some astonishing results.
The authors studied
2,168 women who had radiotherapy for breast cancer between 1958 and 2001 in
Sweden and Denmark. Within five years of receiving the radiation, the women
began having heart problems, and heart problems continued to surface for over
20 years after the radiation.
Not surprisingly, the
greater the radiation dosage, the higher the risk of heart disease. The risk
was greatest for women with preexisting cardiac risk factors. The good news is
that since this study was done, the dosages of radiation women are exposed to
have been lowered. – HuffingtonPost.com
The study goes on to say “the greater the radiation dosage,
the higher the risk of heart disease.” It makes sense, but it doesn’t change
the double-edged-sword that women with breast cancer are faced with.
While there is still A LOT of research to be done on the
subject of radiation associated with breast cancer and increased risk for heart
disease, women now have another important conversation to have with their
physicians.
What makes this issue even more crucial for women to
consider is the fact that heart disease is the number one, most fatal disease that
women face. It takes more mothers, wives, sisters and daughters than any other
disease, including cancer.
L Arginine and Cardio Juvenate Plus
L arginine is an amazing little amino acid that, when
combined with l citrulline, synthesizes to create nitric oxide. While there is
still a great deal of research that needs to be done on both l arginine in
association with heart disease, as well as radiation in association with heart
disease, this amino acid might be a suitable option for women struggling with
tough medical decisions like this.
Talk to your doctor about the possibility of cardiovascular
supplements to improve heart health as you go through chemo and radiation
treatments for breast cancer.
Because l arginine is a precursor to nitric oxide, it has
been linked to reducing blood pressure, decreasing cholesterol, improving
circulation and improving overall heart health.
